TITLE
Assessment in Math and Science: What's the Point? Workshop 3. Is This Going To Count?: Embedded Assessment

CLIP DESCRIPTION
This video clip shows groups of students using calculators to graph functions. The students are discussing whether the function xsin(x) goes through the origin. The teacher realizes that the students are having difficulty with composing the graphs of the functions x and sin x and makes a modification in her planned instruction by going back and making a "T-table" showing the values of xsin(x) for particular values of x.

TOPIC
Graphs of functions.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Assessment does not compete for valuable teaching time; it is teaching time. This workshop shows how embedding assessment into everyday curriculum turns performance tasks into learning activities. Well-designed assessment allows teachers to shape subsequent instruction according to what their students have and have not understood. Content Guide: Monica Neagoy.
